The Enterprise is scheduled to liaise with a medical courier at Star Station India when it picks up a faint distress signal from the Miranda-class USS Lantree.

The Darwin Genetic Research Station is on planet Gagarin IV.

The Darwin station's Genetically-Enhanced Children are physically and mentally advanced for their age, capable of both telepathy and telekinesis (which they demonstrate by playing 3D chess). However, a side effect of the children's over active immune system is that antibodies were released when a member of the Lantree's away team was infected with the Thelusian flu. The antibodies ended up causing a dreadful mutation in both the Lantree's and Darwin station's crew which resulted in rapid aging.

The Lantree is designated a Class-VI Federation supply ship assigned to sector Gamma VII, captain by L Isao Telaka. The USS Lantree carries class three defensive armaments. It's normal compliment is a crew of 26.

Picard uses the emergency code "omicron-omicron-alpha-yellow-daystar-27" to remotely operate the Lantree and access its' systems.

Thelusian Flu is described as an "exotic but rather harmless renal virus"..

Dr. Pulaski is the author of "Linear Models of Viral Propagation".

Pulaski hasn't used the Enterprise's transporter before in fear of her molecules failing to reassemble.

Dr Pulaski's last ship was the USS Repulse (as seen in "The Child"), and her captain is established as Captain Taggart.

Every time the transporter is used, a "transporter trace" is saved in the ship's computer.
