The Iconians were thought to be a myth, described as "demons of air and darkness".

The Iconian language influenced Dinasian, Dewan and Iccobar.

The USS Yamato was captained by Donald Varley, who is an old friend of Picard and shares his love of archaeology.

Denius III is a major archeological dig.

The Romulan ship is called the Haakona.

When Geordi is examining Data for malfunctions, he refers back to Bruce Maddox (see "The Measure of a Man") as a cybernetics expert.

The Yamato's registration is given here as NCC-71807, different to the NCC-1305-E given in "Where Silence Has Lease". However, this could be put down to inconsistencies in Nagilum's recreation.

The Iconians would not be mentioned again until spinoff Deep Space Nine's fourth season episode "To the Death" in which Sisko and the crew of the Defiant discover the Jem'Hadar have control of an Iconian gateway. There's also a mention of an Iconian scientist in a late episode of Voyager.
