The episode was originally designed to be a love story for Doctor Crusher, however that idea would have to wait for season four's "The Host".
	Newcomer director Tom Benko previously sold scripts to "Magnum P.I." and "The Fall Guy" as well as directing on "Kojak" and "Battlestar Galactica".
	The shuttlepod El-Baz was previously seen in "Time Squared" and further featured in "Descent".
	Motor assist bands were seen again in "Ethics".
	The last scene where John Doe evolves was done live with no special effects. Actor Mark LaMura donned a fluorescent orange suit which glowed on the special film used and required little touch up.
