The scene were Riker and his "son" discuss Riker's own fears of repeating his father's mistakes (see "The Icarus Factor") was a complete last minute addition, having been written by Larry Carroll and David Bennett Carren the night before it was shot.

Regular April Grace's character of the Transporter Operative was finally given the last name Hubbell after Edwin Hubbell.
   
The Transporter Chief in Barash's illusion was played by George O'Hanlon Jr, son of George O'Hanlon - the voice behind Hanna-Barbera's "The Jetsons".
   
Tomalak's warbird the Decius is a tip of the hat to the fatally injured aide of Mark Lenard's unnamed Romulan Commander in classic Trek's "Balance of Terror".
   
The Borg interiors from "The Best of Both Worlds" were again reused as the underground Romulan base for this episode.
   
In Riker's future ready-room are the models of the Apollo lunar module and the Nebula class U.S.S. Melbourne.
