First appearance of regular Star Trek race the Bajorans who feature heavily in spinoff Deep Space Nine.
   
The Enterprise travels to Solarion IV to come to the aid of Cardassians whose outpost has been destroyed by Bajoran terrorists. The survivors are taken to Lya Station Alpha.
   
Bajoran refugee settlements are located on Valo III (Jas Holza) and Valo II (Keeve Falor - southern continent).
   
The Bajorans' homeworld was annexed by the Cardassians 40 years ago, and they are now spread out across the galaxy. Before humans had the ability to stand, Bajor was producing architects, artists, builders and philosophers.
   
First appearance of Ro Laren (Michelle Forbes) who makes seven subsequent appearances.
   
The Enterprise's barber is the Bolian Mr. Mot who apparently gives both Picard and Riker tactical advice. Riker describes him as the best barber in Starfleet.
   
The Bajoran custom has the family name first and the individual or "given" name second.
   
Ro Laren was a former ensign on the U.S.S. Wellington. On Garon II she failed to follow orders resulting in the deaths of 8 away team members. She was subsequently court martialled and sent to the stockade on Jaros II.
   
When Ro Laren was just 7, she witnessed her father being tortured and killed by the Cardassians.
   
Picard apparently helped Guinan when she got into trouble "a long time ago".
   
Picard's Aunt Adele's cure for the common cold was hot ginger tea with honey.
   
The Bajoran cruisers are Antares-class. Cardassians have Galor-Class cruisers.
   
Car-day-sian and Card-ass-ian are apaprently two acceptable ways to pronounce the race.
