Visual Effects Producer Dan Curry got his first shot at directing TNG here, and credits Jonathan West, Alan Bernard and Michael Dorn in easing the transition to directorship.

The Carrayan jungle was actually created from photos taken by Dan Curry of the Laotian Jungle.
   
With filming between the two episodes split in two by the December Christmas break, all the plants and trees from the jungle and garden sets died on the dark sealed off soundstage and had to be replaced.
   
In the Okuda-created Carraya system map, one of the stars is labelled Echevarria.
   
In a blooper, Picard gives the stardate as 46759.2 instead of 46579.2.
   
Richard Herd (L'Kor) is well known for his roles in V and SeaQuest DSV, he later appeared in spinoff Voyager as the recurring character Admiral Owen Paris.
