Fred Steiner composed the music for this episode. Steiner was responsible for many of the scores of episodes from the Original Star Trek series, but only scored this one episode from TNG.
	D C Fontana and Michael Baron tried to base the Ligonian culture on the Japanese Samurai, but Tracy Tormé later commented that they compared unfavorably to 1940s black Africans and the fight scene was a rip-off from Kirk and Spock in 'Amok Time'.
