Review
"Shut up Wesley!" Go Jean-Luc! Anyway back on task. In this episode we not only meet Data's brother Lore, but we see his home world, and we first see the Crystalline Entity. So it's a three in one deal. This episode is another star from season one. Brent Spiner was superb in this episode. His portrayal of the evil Lore was just amazingly real. It seems Spiner makes not only a great android, but a great evil... android too. Another reason I liked this episode is because, as I said in another review, it lays down a foundation. In this case you learned more about Data, where he came from, who constructed him, etc. One thing I found interesting was how clean Dr. Soong's lab was. I mean usually you huge machines, computers, and sorts of gizmos to run tests, etc, but in this case there was a storage closet, a small laser gizmo, and a head and torso mould. Granted he probably took most of the stuff when he left, but wouldn't he take the moulds too? As usual in this season, Wesley makes an anus of himself on the bridge. Granted he was right, but come on! You don't persist and persist when the Captain says "Shut Up!" The Crystalline Entity I always thought was cool looking. It's a pretty cool concept too.. yeah.. ok thought I had more to say about it, but.. guess not. Anyway it's cool! The fight scene was pretty interesting. Data tackles Lore into barrels, and Lore throws a few barrels at Data. I think Data had an awesome plan though. As Lore ran at him, Data picked him up and threw him onto the transporter and into space. That was some pretty quick thinking on Data's part if you ask me. All in all I think the episode had good acting, a great plot, action, and a glance into a side of humanity Data probably never counted on. I'd give this one a 5. I'd say Datalore is one of the best in Season 1, besides, who doesn't love episodes about everyone's favorite android?
