 REVIEW by WILL RIKER

"Yes Sir. A Homing beacon. Sent from Earth."

This episode set the ground work for a great story arc that never materialized in the series. Data has the coolest laugh in the world is all I have to say about the teaser before the opening credits. That was priceless! "Swimming is too much like Bathing." Another classic Worf one liner.

If Picard had any doubts about what Walker and the other captains said, they were put to rest with the destruction of the Horatio. The enemy will always try to silence those who are close to the truth. My guess is one of the invaded officers sabotaged the ship.

The way all of those Admirals were talking would have made me uneasy right off the bat. "Tonight is a quiet night" "Yes. A Quiet Night." Or "We are delighted to see you" "Yes. Delighted" No emotion conveyed and horrible acting on the part of the creatures would definitely clue me in. None of them, with the exception of Quinn, showed any form of real emotion.

"Quiet night" my butt. I'm sorry you can't expect someone not to be suspicious when there is NO ONE anywhere to be found in the focal point of Starfleet. Is Quinn sure these creatures are a superior form of life?

I'm glad Quinn had so much fun throwing Riker, Geordi, and Worf around like rag dolls. Damn. I'd better start taking those vitamins he said he was taking. I like the scare tactic they use. Doctor Crusher is working ever so intently as something sneaks up behind. You don't know who it is but you expect another victim. Then suddenly... BOOM! AW, we all say, it was just Commander Riker waking up!

Beautiful meal of worms huh? Picard looked as if he was about to throw up his tea. Hahaha. Picard asks "What race are you? Where do you come from?" As the writers were too lazy to come up with cool names, they just leave it at "It's not important!"

One thing I must say is I was glad to see Remick go. Man that guy pissed me off. Leave it to Picard and Riker to save the day again. Did we expect something else?

The end was excellent. After all of that, the creatures sent a beacon to relay the position of Earth to their home world. That is a damn freaky thought. And then they end it with the beacon heard through the unknown depths of space. Damn great and spooky ending.

This was a great story that easily could have turned into a great story arc later in the series. I'd say, in my humble opinion, that this is one of the best of season one. 5 out of 5.

RATING:
