Writer Keith Mills is a pseudonym for Tracy Tormé who removed his named from the script after Maurice Hurley claimed the episode was full of clichéd surrealism, comedy and satire, and was basically a rip-off of original Trek's "A Piece of the Action". The dispute led Tormé to quit the writing staff, offering only one further instalment - "Manhunt".

In one early draft of the episode, Dr. Pulaski was scheduled to come out with a "McCoy-ism" - "I'm a doctor - not a magician", but the line was lost in re-writes.

Nobel Willingham (Texas) is most famous for appearing on "Northern Exposure".

Picard's claim that Fermat's last theorem was still unsolved has now been proved wrong thanks to Princeton University's professor Andrew Wiles.
